Developer Notes — Changes from v0.2 to v0.3
  • Marquee Tool — Undo/Redo Integration
The marquee selection tool is now integrated into the engine's undo/redo governor.

    • Selecting and deselecting a marquee can be undone
    • Floating and defloating a marquee can be undone
    • Deleting a marquee can be undone
  • JANI Animation Editor (Beta)
Introduces an experimental JANI editor for composing animation script files.

    • JANI files are nearly identical to Graal's GANI animation files
    • Create and edit animation scripts
    • Experimental — additional bug testing is needed

Enable or disable the editor in:
    /js/embed/embed.js
  • NPC / Entity Support
NPCs can now be added directly to levels using the new Entities tool in the Level Editor.

    • Add NPCs through the sidebar's Entities menu
    • Press E to equip the Entities tool
    • Click NPCs to select and manipulate them
    • View all NPCs through the Entities sidebar
    • Invisible NPCs and those using 1×1 pixel images can still be located through the sidebar
    • Open an expanded Script editor to modify an NPC's code
  • Introducing Hooks
NPCs are generally referred to as Hooks within the JEST® engine.

A Hook represents custom code attached to a level, allowing developers to inject scripts and behaviors into their game worlds.

Hooks can also reference image assets for their visual representation.
  • Entity Image Paths
Entity images are loaded relative to:

    /webfiles/files/images/

For testing existing Graal levels, images can be uploaded to:

    /webfiles/files/images/misc/

    Example:
If an image is stored in the misc directory, set the entity's image path to:

    misc/[filename]

The engine will then locate and display the image.
  • Bug Fixes & Improvements
Various bugs, glitches, and internal issues have been addressed throughout the engine.

Application Configuration
Configure your JEST® application by editing the following files:
  • index.html
  • css/vars_local.css
  • js/apps/jest/components/JestConfiguration_loc.js
  • js/apps/jest/components/JestConfiguration_rem.js
