What Is Downwind?

Downwind is the official name now given to the original southern lands of the early Graal Classic map.

These lands were originally occupied by the world of PACHUKA, God of Mischief. Parts of this southern region existed during the beta era and were included in the soft launch of version 1.1, which functioned as the final beta and first full-version release period of Graal. Graal Gold would also appear during this early commercial period.

Downwind is now released as part of a historical and creative preservation effort through JEST®, under the terms included in the attached license package.
Downwind is the northern country of Destiny.

It belongs in homage to PACHUKA, God of Mischief, and exists within the greater world-body of Destiny, belonging in homage to Antago, God of Gravity.

Historical Background

Around version 1.2, Graal had moved beyond its earliest alpha state and solidified into a fuller public version featuring accounts.

During this period, PACHUKA — appointed as the first levels administrator in April of 1999 — had expanded his original southern content into a larger world. Earlier material included a rainbow temple, and later grew into a broader southern landscape featuring:
  • Unique horses
  • Graveyards
  • Temple areas
  • Buildings
  • Baddies
  • Fortresses
  • Expanded southern-world geography
This expanded southern map is now retroactively and officially referred to as:
THE DOWNWIND

The 1.2.7 Removal

In version 1.2.7, Downwind was removed due to an intellectual property rights dispute between PACHUKA and the then-server administrator, Unixmad.

After PACHUKA contacted his lawyer, the southern map was removed to avoid a legal hassle.

This removal also affected nearby content created by Bomber39, whose levels were positioned beside PACHUKA’s Downwind area on the version 1.1 and 1.2 maps. When Downwind was removed, Bomber39’s adjacent levels were removed as well.
For 27 years, the original southern map of Graal Classic remained legally blocked by PACHUKA.

Destiny, Antago, and the Replacement of the Southern Lands

After the original southern lands were removed, the region was later replaced by a pirated copy of Destiny, created by Antago as the world-home of his superhero character:
Antago, God of Gravity
This gives the southern lands a strange and important place in Graal history:
  • PACHUKA’s Downwind occupied the original southern region.
  • That region was removed after a legal dispute.
  • Destiny, created by Antago, later replaced that missing area.
  • Downwind, Hideaway, and Destiny are now unified retroactively as one larger creative body.

Rights Transfer and Release

In April of 2025, Antago obtained the legal rights to PACHUKA’s original Graal content.

This content is now being released under:
Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International
CC BY-SA 4.0
This means the released Downwind materials may be used, shared, adapted, and built upon — including commercially — so long as the terms of the license are followed.

The release is designed to make Downwind usable again without requiring every user to seek case-by-case permission.
The goal is not to trap Downwind behind another gate.

The goal is to free it as a living historical and creative world while preserving attribution, lore integrity, and its relationship to Destiny, PACHUKA, Hideaway, Kelathos, Antago, and JEST®.

Hideaway and Kelathos

Included in this release are the original levels created by Bomber39, whose work sat beside PACHUKA’s Downwind on the old southern map.

On May 15, 2026, Antago obtained the full rights to Bomber39’s content.

Bomber39 is now retroactively referred to in the canon as:
Kelathos
His region has officially been named:
HIDEAWAY
Hideaway includes areas such as:
  • A sky fortress
  • An ice palace
  • Dark woods
  • Additional adjacent southern-world regions
Because Hideaway was historically juxtaposed with Downwind in the original southern map, it is now officially part of Downwind.
Hideaway is part of Downwind.

Downwind is part of Destiny.

Destiny is published through JEST®.

JEST® Publication Notice

This release is a JEST® publication.

JEST® acts here as the publication body and creative umbrella for the release of Downwind into the Creative Commons.

However, this does not mean that all JEST® material, Destiny material, or pantheon material is being released.
Only the expressly released Downwind and Hideaway materials are released under CC BY-SA 4.0.
The broader JEST® superhero / god-pantheon universe is not released into Creative Commons.

This includes, but is not limited to, the broader pantheon:
  • Antago, God of Gravity
  • Azrael, God of Death
  • PACHUKA, God of Mischief
  • Mandi, Goddess of Art
  • Galen, God of Chaos
  • Ultimate Weapon, God of Killing
Only PACHUKA, God of Mischief, is opened for use in the specific context of Downwind and its released materials.

In simple terms:
JEST® is the universe/publisher.

Downwind is the released world-region.

PACHUKA is the released god-context for Downwind.

The rest of the JEST® god pantheon and superhero universe remains reserved.

NOTE: Acknowledgement of the broader pantheon in the creative body is required.

Lore Integrity Requirement

Downwind is not being released as a generic asset dump.

It must remain connected to its world-context.

Any use of Downwind must preserve the following core structure:
  • Downwind is the northern country of Destiny.
  • Hideaway is part of Downwind.
  • PACHUKA is honored as the God of Mischief and mythic patron of Downwind.
  • Kelathos is honored through Hideaway.
  • Antago is honored as God of Gravity in relation to the greater Destiny world-body.
  • JEST® is acknowledged as the publication body for this Creative Commons release.
A simple README footnote is not enough to erase this from the world itself.

Downwind derivatives must include meaningful in-world acknowledgment through lore, geography, symbols, monuments, ruins, dialogue, inscriptions, quest text, NPC references, books, signs, map labels, religious/cultural references, or equivalent world-building content.
You may reinterpret Downwind.

You may expand Downwind.

You may restore Downwind.

You may build upon Downwind.

But you may not sever Downwind from PACHUKA, Hideaway, Destiny, Kelathos, Antago, or its JEST® publication context.

Irrevocable Public License

This release is intended to be permanent.

Because the released materials are provided under CC BY-SA 4.0, the public license is irrevocable for those who lawfully receive the materials and follow the license terms.

JEST® may stop distributing this package in the future, correct future versions, or release other materials under different terms.

However, JEST® cannot claw back the rights already granted to lawful users of this release who comply with the license.
This release cannot be ripped out from under people later.
