The Dark History Behind Azrael's Nightclub

Azrael’s Nightclub, now called DC's Nightclub, is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable hallmarks in Graal Classic's Graal City. For decades, players have passed through it as if it were simply another nostalgic landmark from early Graal history.

In 1999, at the age of 12, my encounters with “Azrael” would describe him as sexually abusive, corruptive, and outright predatory toward players. At the time, he appeared to a strange early legendary figure — another name in the fog of the game’s formation. But the surviving record now points toward something far less enchanting, and instead disturbing.

Azrael Never... Truly Existed

By a twist and sharp turn of fate, it turns out that “Azrael” never truly existed. Graal Online was much younger than advertised, and the community only existed for an estimated 6 months.

Azrael was not his real identity in the way Graal mythology preserved him. “Azrael” was a spectacularly intentional alias, a mask and facade for espionage adopted by Ruby (Weapon), one of the members of the Weapon guild.

The truth behind this alias reveals sudden arrival of Azrael, the origins of the nightclub, and the sudden disappearance of said player.

This is the history behind that name.

The Controversy

Archived webpages and surviving conversations reconstruct a disturbing sequence involving several of Graal’s earliest power players: A middle-school boy named Nick was repeatedly targeted, mocked, and pushed downward by a clique of older adult male players. At the same time, Nick’s 14-year-old girlfriend, Mandi, was singled out by that same circle, praised, mythologized, and elevated as their “Goddess.”

The man remembered by Graal as “Azrael” was not originally Azrael. He was Ruby (Weapon), a member of the Weapon guild. His close associate, Ultimate (Weapon), was also part of the Weapons.

Ruby (Weapon) appears to have adopted the Azrael alias during the same period in which Mandi and Nick were being pulled into this adult clique’s mythology. That alias was not neutral: “Azrael” is the Angel of Death in Judaic mysticism, while Mandi and Nick were the young couple behind Angel Clan.

In that context, Ruby (Weapon)’s chosen mask "Azrael" looks less like a random fantasy roleplay, and more like a mask for intrusion.

Mandi and Nick were children wrapped in angel imagery. Ruby (Weapon) put on the face of an archangel of death, and placed NPCs with the names Nick & Mandi in his nightclub just around the corner from their guild headquarters. In the same nightclub, a passage was written to "sacrifice the young angel child", likely a reference to the cult's successful attempt at destroying Nick.

Nick became the target.

Mandi became the Goddess.

And the relationship utterly and completely collapsed: not by natural consequence, but rather by design.

The History Behind the Alias

For nearly three decades, the name “Azrael” has been embedded in Graal Online lore. Azrael’s Nightclub survived in Graal City long after most players forgot the people, relationships, and conflicts behind it. That is exactly why the name has to be handled with surgical precision. Calling him “Azrael” as if that were his true identity repeats the mythology the alias was designed to create.

The historical figure behind the facade was, in truth, Ruby (Weapon).

Ruby (Weapon) came from the earlier player ecosystem surrounding Chris Wright’s SNES9x.com Zelda Online applet. That applet belonged to Wright’s website and community before its concept and playerbase were redirected toward Cyberjoueur. The later story that Zelda Online simply “became” Graal Online blurred that break and obscured the migration of an existing community from one project into another.

That migration brought more than players. It carried existing relationships, rivalries and identities into the new game. Some players adopted different aliases along the way, leaving later Graal history to remember the new identities while obscuring who had actually come from the earlier SNES9x/Zelda Online scene.

Ruby (Weapon) was one of them.

His new facade was “Azrael.”

Why that particular identity matters becomes considerably less mysterious once Mandi, Nick and Angel Clan are placed into the timeline.

NOTE: Zelda Online was an applet connected to Chris Wright of SNES9x.com. Within months, its concept and playerbase were redirected toward Cyberjoueur, while the later official story blurred that break by presenting Graal Online as though it were simply the continuation of Zelda Online.

Mandi and Nick

Mandi’s connection to Graal began not with Ruby (Weapon)’s Azrael facade, but with Nick. Mandi later recalled that Nick introduced her to the game. Together, they became associated with Angel Clan, one of the most recognizable fixtures of early Graal. Their relationship was not private drama, but rather incorporated into the game world, its locations, its costumes, and its earliest community memories.

Today, the starcrossed lovers' tragedy echoes through Graal Classic, haunting its lore for many decades.

A small cloud warp, exactly one level west of Taylor Richards, still reveals the lone portal to their guild island—silent in the sky. That guild belonged to Nick, and also to Mandi—the young leaders of Angel Clan.

Their relationship, their angel imagery, and their shared creative presence were part of the game’s inception. Azrael’s Nightclub then sat close to that symbolic geography, just around the corner from the Angel Clan cloud warp—exactly one level north... of Taylor Richards.

Mandi also created the first custom headsets on the startup menu, known respectively as “Nick” and “Mandi,” immediately following the “Fung Si Yan” headset:

These heads, created by a middle-school girl named Mandi, were the first progression from Graal into a long legacy of illegal use minors' assets to form a commercial entity.

Surviving pages also establish something crucial about their ages. In his own writing, PACHUKA described Nick as a middle-school kid. Mandi’s December 1983 birth date independently establishes that she was only 14 during documented activity involving the pair in late 1998 (see PACHUKA's Goodbye Letter).

That age distinction changes the entire meaning of the archive. This was not a normal feud among adult players. The record shows older players repeatedly targeting a middle-school boy while simultaneously elevating his 14-year-old girlfriend.

The Nick File

The campaign against Nick was not a single argument taken out of context. PACHUKA, Galen, and others maintained pages containing repeated attacks against him. They mocked his finances, his creative work, his intelligence, his personality, and his relationship with Mandi. PACHUKA ridiculed Nick’s understanding of the web while boasting about taking his property.

This matters because Nick and Mandi recur throughout the EmuCult material. Again and again, Nick is the one being degraded and targeted. Mandi is the one being praised, elevated, and pulled into the adult clique’s symbolic world.

The contrast is too consistent to dismiss as forum ugliness. Nick was framed as pathetic, childish, selfish, incompetent, hypocritical, and disposable. Mandi was treated as special.

The same circle doing the degrading of Nick, also became the circle that mythologized his girlfriend, Mandi.

The First “Elders” Become Gods

The same circle attacking Nick was also accumulating influence over Graal. PACHUKA, Galen, Ultimate (Weapon), and Ruby (Weapon) formed the core of a group first presented as “Elders.” Again, Ruby was now wearing a mask called "Azrael." The title of "Elders" was eventually discarded for something considerably grander.

They became the “Gods.”

While the "Elders" label was later revived, between February and April of 1999, they were known as the "Gods."

Contemporary material assigned the men individual divine identities and placed them inside a miniature mythology built directly into the game and its surrounding websites. This was not merely a joke floating outside the project for the sake of roleplaying. It became part of how early Graal framed its own internal hierarchy, and appears directly related to EmuCult & Sonic-Cult, two groups created by PACHUKA to gain access to children.

Among four adult men who styled themselves as “Gods”—while simultaneously attacking Mandi’s boyfriend, Nick, through a website called EmuCult, itself a reference to the Zelda Online community—there was only one female elevated into their pantheon.

Their “Goddess” was Mandi.

She was 15 years old.

That detail is difficult to separate from the surrounding record. A group of adult males repeatedly documented and humiliated a middle-school boy while simultaneously singling out his 14-year-old girlfriend for extraordinary attention and status.

Nick was ridiculed as pathetic, whiny, selfish, and incompetent. On the contrary, Mandi was incorporated into their pantheon, now aged 15.

The mythology became even more pointed when Ruby (Weapon) adopted the Azrael alias. Again, “Azrael” is not his true identity. It was the mask. It was the facade. It was the name he placed inside his Graal content to seduce the angel clan leader, while the true player name — Ruby (Weapon) — faded into obscurity.

That fading of his first identity was due in part to a "successful" campaign to apparently seduce a minor.

Mandi and Nick were the Angel Clan couple. Ruby (Weapon) became “Azrael,” the Angel of Death. Despite being "Gods" in the abruptly created pantheon, surviving material soon paired Ruby’s Azrael facade and Mandi under a unique and related set of titles: the “Ungod” and the “Ungoddess.”

Whatever meaning individual players attached to those fantasy names at the time, the documented pattern around them is not fantasy. These were identifiable people with identifiable ages and relationships in the real world, with relations and legacies outside of Graal. The same people attacking Nick were elevating Mandi, and they do not appear to have shown comparable interest in any other female.

Nick Wasn’t Simply Mocked. He Was Being Pushed Out.

The surviving material becomes more disturbing when read chronologically instead of as disconnected remnants of 1990s internet drama.

The attacks on Nick continued while Mandi’s position inside the adult clique increased. Contemporary material openly discussed the deterioration of the young middle-school couple’s relationship. At one point, Galen described Ruby (Weapon)’s Azrael facade in unusually explicit terms:

That is an extraordinary statement to find in contemporary material about a relationship involving a girl who had recently been 14 while Ruby was an adult male, sporting several aliases apparently progressively designed to align himself further with her while referring to her as his lone Goddess.

Other surviving pages document Mandi breaking up with Nick. The people who had spent months attacking Nick were not merely observing a random relationship ending from a distance. They had already documented their hostility toward him extensively before it happened. They had mocked him, degraded him, and treated his relationship as public material.

The historical sequence is therefore simple. Nick brings Mandi into the community. Older players fixate on the couple. Nick becomes a sustained target. Mandi receives exceptional praise and status from the same circle. Ruby (Weapon), under the Azrael facade, becomes increasingly important to her. A contemporary observer says “Azrael” has Mandi “under his control.” Then Mandi and Nick break apart.

That chronology is more significant than any single ugly webpage.

Did Mandi independently come to see Nick as whiny and weak—or was she being encouraged to see him that way by the same older men who were relentlessly bullying him, then treating his distress over that bullying as further evidence of his “weakness”?

She was being groomed, and that seduction was unfolding publicly enough to fuel understandable insecurity in Nick. Yet the insecurity their own behavior helped create was then turned against him—reframed by the adult men surrounding Mandi as further evidence that Nick was “whiny,” “weak,” or simply a bad boyfriend. Neither Nick nor his middle-school girlfriend was equipped to recognize, much less defend against, that kind of manipulation.

“Engaged? I’m Married to Him.”

The record does not end with Mandi’s breakup with Nick. In another surviving exchange, a player asks Mandi a revealing question during an interview:

"Heh. That reminds me, still engaged to Azrael?" — Zelda Player

The word “still” is important. The question treats an engagement between Mandi and the man known through the Azrael alias as something familiar within the community, not as some rumor being introduced.

Mandi’s recorded answer goes further:

"Engaged? I’m married to him." — Mandi

Taken alone, a line from an old gaming community could be dismissed as roleplay, joking, or loose teenage banter. Taken alongside the chronology, it becomes much harder to dismiss. The exchange sits within a sequence in which Mandi had already been elevated by Ruby (Weapon)’s adult clique, paired symbolically with his Azrael angel facade, hierarchically separated from Nick, and described by another member of that circle as being “under his control.”

This relationship also continued outside the immediate Graal mythology. During the same broader period, terms like “engaged,” “husband,” and “boyfriend” circulated around Mandi’s connection to the man she knew as Azrael, even as she described herself as having moved on from Graal.

The evidence does not require inventing a sexual act for which no record exists. What it documents is already serious: an older player developed an unusually intimate relationship with a girl he encountered when she was approximately 14, while his close associates systematically attacked her middle-school boyfriend and elevated her socially inside their circle.

The Humiliation Became Sexualized

Ruby (Weapon), disguised behind the Azrael facade, was not merely a passive figure in Angel Clan's story. The surviving material places him inside the direct targeting of Nick and Mandi along with Ultimate (Weapon), his guildmate. Together, they account for half of the adult males in the pantheon that exalted Mandi, and promulgated the EmuCult. This matters because the conduct was not only social or mythological. It became humiliating, and sexually suggestive.

Archived material shows Ruby’s Azrael facade connected to imagery involving Nick’s defeated or deceased game avatar in a sexually suggestive act of domination. This was broadcasted by Spider on Spider's Page of Stuff, and left in the penultimate most recent post for decades—a website where Ruby himself routinely spoke in the back-end IRC channel, even long after leaving Graal.

In isolation, some would try to dismiss that as crude 1990s internet humor. In context, it reads very differently. It appears as a proud monument of his exploits and arrived merely after months of hostility toward a middle-school boy. The record showed they sought to dominate, humiliate, isolate, and separate Nick from his girlfriend.

That kind of image functions as more than a joke. It reads as humiliation, intimidation, and sexual domination.

It is also symbolically consistent with the rest of the pattern:
A middle-school boy connected to Angel Clan is degraded.

His young girlfriend is elevated.

Ruby (Weapon) adopts the Angel of Death mask.

The relationship breaks.

Then the game preserves the mask.

Nick disappears.

Ruby whisks Mandi away to EverQuest, where Mandi has no status, legacy, or safety net.
Ruby also remained remarkably loyal to the same circle that had hacked, cyber-stalked, and publicly humiliated young members of the community—including preserving and circulating his own sexualized exploitation of Nick’s game avatar for decades.

Members of this circle character-assassinated minors, spread intimate gossip, and later circulated explicit photographs involving the now-young-adult versions of people they had begun targeting as children, exposing that material within a community still populated by minors.

The same circle was also deeply involved in piracy and the unauthorized distribution of media, while members coordinated their efforts to conceal or frustrate accountability for their conduct. The group has faced serious allegations of having perverted the course of justice.
That history makes Ruby’s reaction in 2026 particularly shocking: When asking about these people decades later, he did not describe them as dangerous figures from whom he had long since distanced himself. He asked about them fondly, treating them as old Graalians worth remaining in contact with—even while acknowledging allegations that members of the circle had engaged in criminal conduct.

Then Mandi Disappeared From Graal

One of the stranger features of early Graal history is how abruptly several of its central figures disappeared from the story.

As mentioned, Mandi moved on to EverQuest. Material from that later community places an Azrael-linked identity in the same orbit, raising an obvious question: after everything that happened around Graal, did Mandi independently move to another game, or did she go there with the man she knew as Azrael?

All of this appears to occur after Ruby seduced Mandi with an in-game nightclub, fashioned by the Weapons' influence whereby Ultimate & Ruby used their clout to gain access to the server, and to drag Angel Clan into the gutter while flirting with its female leader.

Mandi recently answered that question herself when I reached out to her for testimony.

The name Trentazra was passively confirmed by Mandi as an alias of Ruby, which appears to be a portmanteau of "Trent" and "Azra". "Trent" is a reference to "Trent Reznor", confirmed by Ruby to have been the inspiration behind his character. "Azra" is the etymological root of "Azrael".

Together we can see, in the keywords of Mandi's old EverQuest guild page, that Trentazra appears as a member.

Further evidence suggests their relationship was well known, including her waning affections later fixating on Ruby & Mandi's EverQuest guildmate, Rinsar.

Captain USA's statement clearly indicates that Azrael was playing EverQuest, he was banned, and then Mandi began dating Rinsar. There is no reason to doubt this testimony when the evidence stacks up.

So, the question remains, why did "Azrael" and Mandi leave Graal suddenly?

When asked whether she moved on from Graal by choice or whether Azrael — associated in the research with the name Trentazra — had pulled her toward EverQuest, Mandi replied:

"I was mostly following [Azrael]. We were friends and played [EverQuest] together for a while." — Mandi

That statement was made decades after the archived Graal material. It independently reconnects Mandi and Ruby (Weapon)’s Azrael facade after their departure from the game.

She did not protest the name Trentazra being an epithet of Azrael. She cleanly responded. This places her in the same time frame where Mandi referred to Azrael as her "husband," and said she played EverQuest with her "boyfriend."

It also completes a remarkable documentary trail. Mandi entered Graal through Nick. Nick is targeted by Ruby (Weapon)’s circle. Mandi is elevated by that same circle. Contemporary material describes “Azrael” as having Mandi under his control. Mandi and Nick separate, after a documented trail of cheerleading the breakup on EmuCult. Mandi is described as engaged or married to “Azrael.” She leaves Graal. Decades later, she says she was “mostly following Azrael” into EverQuest.

That sequence resembles the classic logic of isolation far more than it resembles a normal adult relationship between equals. The archive does not show a young woman simply choosing a new game in a vacuum. It shows a girl who entered the Graal game through her then middle-school boyfriend, watched that boyfriend become a sustained target, became elevated by older men, attached to one of them, and then followed her next "boyfriend", an adult, into his game community of choice.

Mandi played games to be close to her boyfriend. When Nick was systematicaly destroyed by adults, she followed an adult male into another game who she identified as her "husband" and "boyfriend."

Ruby (Weapon) Controlled Both Nick & Mandi

Further evidence suggests that Ruby (Weapon)’s influence through the Azrael facade extended beyond Mandi. Contemporary EmuCult material indicates that he could exert pressure on both sides of the young couple’s relationship.

One passage is particularly revealing. After Nick censored material posted by PACHUKA—one of Nick’s most persistent bullies—EmuCult records that Nick reversed the decision after “Azrael bitched at him.” In other words, the same man becoming increasingly influential over Mandi could apparently pressure Nick into restoring material posted by one of the people relentlessly targeting him.

That person was not incidental to the story. PACHUKA conceived of the cult surrounding EmuCult, operated the website, and participated directly in the campaign against Nick. He was later arrested in connection with the sexual exploitation of minors surrounding another emulation community, Sonic-Cult.

Ruby (Weapon) Says He Was 17. The Dates Say Otherwise.

Decades later, Ruby (Weapon)’s Azrael facade was contacted about Graal and the conduct of its early power players. His description of everyone’s ages was strikingly specific. He claimed to remember the early community as essentially “15 to 17 year olds” playing a Zelda clone, despite the community consisting of a much broader range of ages.

Later in the conversation, when pressed about harmful and predatory decisions made by people controlling and influencing Graal around children, he invoked the same age again as an emotional alibi:

"Your assumption is that a 17-year-old [myself] cared about any of that." — Ruby (Weapon)

But the birth date identified for Ruby (Weapon) is June 14, 1980.

That places him at 18 during documented late-1998 material, 19 after June 1999, and 20 after June 2000. Mandi, born in December 1983, was approximately three and a half years younger. During documented pre-December 1998 activity involving her and Nick, she was still 14 while Ruby (Weapon) was already an adult and then adopted the alias Azrael.

In late 1999, when surviving material described Mandi as “engaged,” “married,” or otherwise romantically attached to the man she knew as Azrael, she was still only 15. This means the girl Ruby (Weapon) had encountered when she was 14 appears to have become intimately tied to him immediately after her middle-school boyfriend had been tormented and pushed out by his circle.

He was confronted directly with the age discrepancy:

"We both know that you were 19 and 20. Is your birthday June 14th, 1980?" — Antago

The Nightclub Was Never Just a Nightclub

For decades, players have been able to walk through a Graal City landmark bearing Ruby (Weapon)’s alias without knowing the history surrounding the man and apparently the nightclub's entire purpose behind it. For nearly thirty years, the players believed the title Azrael was the beloved penname of a beta developer, and legendary artist. Instead, the name was just a rouse to manipulate a child who loved angels by a member of the Weapon guild, who apparently, in truth, loathed angels and didn't even continue to carry the name.

During Antago's conversation with Ruby in 2026, Ruby apparently was surprised when called Azrael. He said he had not heard that name in a very long time. This indicates the title Azrael, again, had virtually no significance to Ruby apart from its intent to entice Mandi.

The nightclub was created to prey on a child, and to attract her.

The nightclub survived. The Gods and Goddess later became trivia. Nick largely disappeared from all mythology. Mandi vanished from the community. Ruby (Weapon) hid behind the name “Azrael” so effectively that the alias outlived all facts.

Azrael's Nightclub is best understood as Ruby's Mirage, another tactic of espionage designed by the Weapon clan brothers like a swallow's black rose primped & pruned whole to beguile some child.
